| Despicable Me Trailer |
[15 Jul 2009|11:06am] |
Synopsis: Carell's title character is a deplorable man known as Gru who masterminds the mother of all heists when he plots to steal the moon. Egged on by an evil mother (Julie Andrews), Gru finds one obstacle in his way: a trio of orphan girls who temporarily come under his care and won't leave.
Synopsis sounds kind of lame, but Jason Segel and Jemaine Clement are in it so...eh who am I kidding, I won't see it, unless it's on Encore or something.

| NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN FOOTAGE OF MICHAEL JACKSON'S HAIR CATCHING FIRE IN 1984 |
[15 Jul 2009|12:07pm] |
Michael Jackson's Famous Hair Fire: The Video

Oh, holy god. Remember when Michael Jackson's hair caught on fire while filming a Pepsi commercial in 1984? Well Us Weekly got the harrowing footage and claims the injury spurred his terrible painkiller addiction. His head just... catches on fire. The video clearly shows Jackson doing a few pyrotechnics takes safely and then, on the sixth, everything goes disastrously wrong and his hair is set ablaze. It almost looks as though Jackson doesn't notice it at first, until some guy runs on and just sprays him in the fucking face with a fire extinguisher.

edit: I'm not sure what's wrong, but the video doesn't seem to be embedding properly. Please go to the source to watch the footage, and sorry for any inconvenience. Thanks, guys.

Jay-Z vs the Game: Lessons for the American Primacy Debate

Late last week, the Los Angeles rapper the Game launched a blistering attack against the legendary New York blogger rapper :>) Jay-Z. At a series of European shows, the Game led crowds in cheers of "F*** Jay-Z" and "Old Ass N*****", and at one point went into an obsenity laced (but rather wickedly funny) rampage against Jay-Z's fiancé (wife?) Beyonce. Over the weekend, he released "I'm So Wavy [Too Hardcore to be a Jay-Z]", an inconsistent but catchy attack on Jay-Z (note: all links are to songs which are almost certainly NSFW and which you might find offensive; you've been warned). When I started feeding this stuff to my friend Spencer Ackerman last week, his first take was that "the countdown to the end of the Game's career starts today." Mine, me being a professor of international relations, was to start thinking about how this could be turned into a story about the nature of hegemony and the debate over the exercise of American power. (That, and how I could waste time that I should be spending on real work.)
( this ain’t politically correct; this might offend my political connects )

| Brooke Hogan - Redemption |
[15 Jul 2009|11:56am] |

- Brooke Hogan has definitely redeemed herself with her 14 set album, “Redemption.” Her vocals are stronger and the lyrics are more meaningful than her debut album, “Undiscovered.”
Opening up the album is the intro track that talks about her family issues such as her mother dating a 19-year-old and her brother’s incarceration. “Redemption” is very personal and draws listeners into the life of Ms. Brooke Hogan.

| So what did Barbara Walters think of Bruno? Lets have a look..... |
[15 Jul 2009|11:50am] |
source. While I agree that this isn't a movie for 70 year old women or children I thought it was fucking HILARIOUS. And I though Barbara saying that the film may make you homophobic and that she doesn't need to know how to have anal sex was really kinda fucking ignorant. Personally I thought the movie did a great job of showing how ignorant homophobic assholes are. idk, I love anything Sasha does. ETA. To make myself clear. I think that Barbara being offended by the graphic nature of this film is fine. I just feel like she is mostly offended because of the gay graphic nature. Her direct quote: This is a movie that proports to make people who are homophobic know more. I think this will make people if you're not homophobic...it could make you. I don't need to know how you are doing anal intercourse. (to audience)You all want to go see this movie now?

| Bridget Jones returning for a THIRD MOVIE |
[15 Jul 2009|11:33am] |
This is an occasion for genuinely tiny knickers: Bridget Jones is coming back to the big screen. Renee Zellweger will reprise her role as the charmingly befuddled British publishing exec in the third installment of the franchise, Variety.com reports.
The script will likely be based on author Helen Fielding's columns for British paper The Independent about Bridget trying to have a baby and her continuing search for love. The first two movies, "Bridget Jones's Diary" in 2001, and "Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason" in 2004, were based on Fielding's best-selling books of the same titles.
The film will be produced by Working Title and is expected to go into production at the end of next year. There is no writer or director as of yet. And now that the films' heroine is into her 40s, it remains to be seen whether Zellweger will have to put on even more weight than usual to literally flesh out the character.
source
ETA: The Guardian says that both Colin Firth and Hugh Grant will also star in the third movie: "The third in the series following 2001's Bridget Jones and 2004 sequel Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason – will be based on writer Helen Fielding<'s series of columns in the Independent in 2005. The storyline sees Bridget trying to have a baby in her 40s, despite still not being able to decide between handsome but untrustworthy publisher Cleaver, played by Hugh Grant in the films, and steady but boring Darcy, played by Colin Firth."

The Bridget Jones movies were the first chick flick movies I ever really loved. THERE BETTER BE ANOTHER CLEAVER/DARCY FIGHT!

| Miley Cyrus to star in 'Wings' |
[15 Jul 2009|11:19am] |
Disney has acquired screen rights to the young adult novel "Wings" and will develop the bestselling Aprilynne Pike title as a star vehicle for Miley Cyrus. Temple Hill partners Marty Bowen and Wick Godfrey will produce. Tish Cyrus will be executive producer. It's Temple Hill's first foray into supernatural fare since "Twilight." Pic will be developed for Cyrus to play Laurel, a 15-year-old who grows up sheltered and home-schooled in a small town. Adjusting to a big high school is difficult, and her suspicion that she's not like the other kids becomes a reality when she sprouts a pair of wings and learns that she's a fairy. Published in May, the novel is the first of a planned four-book series. The deal continues Disney's relationship with Cyrus beyond "Hannah Montana." She is currently shooting "The Last Song," a Julie Anne Robinson-directed adaptation of the novel that Nicholas Sparks wrote as a vehicle for Cyrus. Sparks wrote the script with Jeff Van Wie.

'Harry Potter' Overpowers 'The Dark Knight' for #2 Spot on Fandango's Top Advance Ticket-
LOS ANGELES, July 15 /PRNewswire/ -- "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" has eclipsed both "Twilight" and "The Dark Knight" on Fandango's list of Top Ten Advance Ticket-Sellers, taking over the #2 spot from "Knight." The #1 spot continues to be held by "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith."
"Harry Potter 6" currently represents 96% of all ticket sales on Fandango. Some additional updates from Fandango:
* Fandango has sold out more than 3,000 midnight and early morning showtimes for "Harry Potter" across the country, from Anchorage to Fort Lauderdale. * On Tuesday, Fandango sustained a rate of selling ten "Harry Potter" tickets per second. * Theater owners added show times throughout the night, but even 4:00 a.m. showtimes ended up selling out in advance online.
"It's rare for a movie to sell out so many of its midnight and early morning showtimes," says Rick Butler, Chief Operating Officer of Fandango. "But the positive word-of-mouth on 'Half-Blood Prince' has been particularly powerful. We expect heavy repeat business throughout the next few weeks, and especially when 'Potter' gets a wide release in the IMAX and 3D formats on July 29."
The new Top 10 Advance Ticket-Sellers on Fandango are as follows:
1. "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith" (2005) 2. "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" (2009) 3. "The Dark Knight" (2008) 4. "Twilight" (2008) 5. "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" (2005) 6. "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" (2007) 7. "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" (2007) 8. "Hannah Montana 3D" (2008) 9. "Lord of the Rings: Return of the King" (2003) 10. "Spider-Man 3" (2007)
I LOVED THIS MOVIE SO MUCH! WHO ELSE CRIED? :(

| Jon Gosselin Speaks Out on New Girlfriend |
[15 Jul 2009|11:07am] |

Jon Gosselin spoke to photographers as he arrived at JFK airport in NYC Tuesday -- armed with $702 in cash and slew of large Gucci bags -- following his trip to France with 22-year-old girlfriend Hailey Glassman.
Asked how Glassman is doing, the 32-year-old father of eight shrugged his shoulders.
The photographer teased, "She ditched you in Nice?"
"Probably," Jon replied.
Asked what ex Kate thinks of party girl Glassman (the daughter of the surgeon who performed her 2006 tummy tuck), Jon said, "I guess you'd have to ask Kate."
He then added that he's "not allowed" to discuss the relationship. "I don't want to get in trouble," he told photographers.
Later, when asked why Glassman wasn't with him, Jon said, his girlfriend "is stayin'" in France.
Jon said he "had to come back" to the United States to "work."
"I had to film," he said, noting that they still have 34 episodes left to shoot. (After a month-long hiatus, the TLC show returns Aug. 3.)
Jon also briefly addressed his Ed Hardy gig. He previously said that he and Glassman had been offered a job to design a children's clothing line with Ed Hardy fashion designer Christian Audigier. But reps for the clothing company later denied his claim.
Asked for a status update, Jon simply said he was "offered" a gig.
"I have to go through a lot of paper[work]," he told photographers, stressing that nothing was final.
Was the offer good?
"Yeah, I think so," he said, adding that the Ed Hardy brand is "pretty popular."
Despite all the drama in his personal life, Jon seemed in good spirits. Photographers asked him if life was good.
As he hopped in his chauffer-driven car, he replied, "Yeah."

| Henry Cavill Can't Get One in the Can |
[15 Jul 2009|10:52am] |

There’s an old idiom that goes, “Always a bridesmaid, never a bride.” When it comes to the comic book genre, the saying could go, “Always a sidekick, never a superhero.” But in the case of actor Henry Cavill, even that adage doesn’t quite fit.
Cavill has achieved a large following for his role as Sir Charles Brandon on “The Tudors,” but he’s missed several opportunities to increase that fan base even more. There are reports that the young actor narrowly lost the role of Batman to Christian Bale some years ago. He was later attached to play Superman for director McG, but that project never flew, even if he did get to wear the costume.
To add insult to injury, Cavill was apparently a lead contender for the role of Hal Jordan in “Green Lantern” before losing the part to Ryan Reynolds. That’s three misses with DC Comics, for those of you keeping score. If things continue in this tradition, Cavill’s tights-wearing habits could remain in period pieces.
So maybe, just maybe, Cavill should consider crossing the street from DC Comics to Marvel Comics. With several Marvel Studios projects in the works — including and especially “The Avengers” — there are likely several roles that need filling, and in my estimation, Cavill could be perfect for some of these jobs. Let’s run down a few of them:

KRISTIN CAVALLERI WANTS TO BE THE NEXT BIG THING
two time oscar winning legend...

CAMERON DIAZ!!!
While the transition from cable TV reality-show star to feature film actress is certainly easier than....say, making the leap from porn, few women outside of Jacinda Barrett from MTV's "Real World: London" have been able to cross over. And while the young ladies from MTV's "The Hills" have so-far been content extending their careers to recording artist, best-selling author and Carl's Jr chick-in-bikini-eating-a-hamburger, Kristen Cavallari hopes to make it all the way to Hollywood's A-list, becoming a "serious actress" like Cameron Diaz.
In an interview with the New York Post's Pop Wrap this week to promote her new film "Van Wilder: Freshman Year," 22 year-old Cavallari says, "I want to do great movies that are number one at the box office and also independent movies that are dark and miserable. I see myself with a career like Cameron Diaz - she does 'What Happens in Vegas' and then 'My Sister's Keeper,' so I want to do it all!"
Set to return to her MTV reality roots this September on "The Hills" (she previously starred, of course, in the network's "Laguna Beach") Cavallari goes on to note, "Cameron is [my] number one, but I also like Charlize Theron and Sienna Miller....I'm going off looks too."
Regarding her role as love interest in the straight-to-video T&A film (the third installement in the "Van Wilder" franchise), Cavallari says, "I'm so excited, I can't wait for people to see this movie and take me seriously as an actress. I was so nervous during filming but I fought for this role. I want people to love it."
On her "Hills" future Cavallari adds, "I'm only tied in to two seasons....so we'll see how things play out."
